- New podcast series exploring the central role of process automation in underpinning everyday lives while helping industries run safer, smarter and more sustainable operations
- Expert insights into technologies orchestrating some of the largest, most complex infrastructures on the planet
- Taking listeners behind the scenes of industries that provide the basic building blocks of modern society
The Process Automation Podcast – a new series launched by ABB today – explores the key role of automation, electrification and digitalization in supporting industries that provide the energy, materials and commodities essential for everyday lives.
While many people around the world may take it for granted that reliable power is available at the flip of a switch or water flows at the turn of a knob, not many think about the sophisticated, interconnected processes, systems, technologies and operations working around the clock to enable these essentials. The ABB Process Automation Podcast reveals how technologies central to modern society are increasingly being put to work to support a cleaner future, driven by the urgency of ensuring a sustainable path for the growing population of the planet.
“Infrastructures that bring us energy, power, water, data, and the supply of materials that make up the goods we use and consume every day, are some of the largest systems in the world,” explains President of ABB’s Process Automation business area Peter Terwiesch in the first episode. “They are also among the most complex ones. Keeping these running 24/7, with an absolute minimum of interruptions – that is what process automation does.”
Today, industries are working on addressing one of their greatest challenges: reducing emissions and increasing the share of low-carbon sources in their energy mix. ABB’s integrated automation, electrical and digital technologies are supporting industries on their sustainability journey by helping control production while optimizing the use of power. This enables increased electrification and a reliable integration of renewables as industries navigate the clean energy transition.
Over the course of the series, the Process Automation Podcast will explore various industries and themes, such as energy and hydrocarbons, mining and minerals, hydrogen, emissions monitoring, shipping, water and many others. The podcast is hosted by Fran Scott, a presenter and science content producer at the Royal Institution best known for her work with the BBC and Channel 4.
