The new solution expands the company’s offering for decarbonizing industrial processes, combining heat recovery, high energy efficiency and seamless integration with existing plants
At CIBUS TEC 2026, the trade show for innovations and global trends in food and beverage technologies in Parma, Italy, from 27 to 30 October, CANNON Bono launches its new range of high-temperature industrial heat pumps, developed to meet the growing demand for technologies that improve energy efficiency for industrial processes while supporting decarbonization targets.
The new industrial heat pumps recover waste heat generated by production processes and upgrade it into valuable high-temperature thermal energy for producing hot water and steam. This makes it possible to reduce primary energy consumption, lower operating costs and decrease CO₂ emissions associated with heat generation.
With the launch of the new range, CANNON Bono is now bringing to the market a technology that has already been tested and validated under real operating conditions, extending its application to a wide variety of industrial processes and sectors.
Heat pumps can be used in many industries, including food & beverage, pharmaceuticals, pulp & paper, chemicals, textiles and district heating, where waste heat recovery is becoming an increasingly important lever for improving energy performance in industrial plants.
The range covers thermal capacities from 300 kW up to 4 MW in a single stage and achieves a Coefficient of Performance (COP) ranging from 2 to 6+, making it possible to generate up to six units of thermal energy for every unit of electrical energy consumed, depending on operating conditions.
To meet different application requirements, CANNON Bono develops configurations based on reciprocating compressors selected according to the required capacity and specific process conditions. Using refrigerants with zero ODP (Ozone Depletion Potential) and a GWP below 5 (Global Warming Potential) further contributes to reducing the environmental impact of the overall system.
A proven application is already in operation at Cartiere di Guarcino, an Italian paper mill and manufacturer that specializes in producing decorative specialty papers, with a CANNON Bono HTHP 750/S heat pump. The unit was designed to produce process steam by recovering thermal energy available from the cooling circuit of the plant’s cogeneration units. The solution makes it possible to recover heat that would otherwise be wasted and return it to the production process in the form of steam at 115°C and 1.7 bara. The heat pump delivers 1,200 kg/h of steam, with a thermal output of 741 kW, an electrical power consumption of 141 kW and a COP of 5.25.
The new heat pumps are designed to integrate with existing industrial plants and can operate in combination with CANNON Bono steam generators, enabling coordinated management of thermal energy production. Integration with automation and control systems also makes it possible to optimize plant operation and adapt energy production to actual process requirements.
“Introducing industrial heat pumps is a natural evolution of our technology portfolio,” says Leonardo Volpato, General Manager of CANNON Bono. “Today, manufacturing companies are being called upon to combine competitiveness, energy efficiency and emissions reduction. By recovering process heat and integrating with existing systems, this new range provides a practical solution to support the energy transition without compromising reliability or operational continuity.”
With this launch, CANNON Bono further expands its portfolio of solutions for industrial thermal energy generation, complementing traditional systems with new technologies designed to maximize heat recovery and support the electrification of industrial processes. Nearly 70 years after being founded, the launch confirms the company’s ongoing commitment to innovation and to the development of high-efficiency solutions for an increasingly sustainable, low-emission industry.
At CIBUS TEC 2026 CANNON Bono can be found in Hall 05 – Stand B 064
