Mosca GmbH has published its fourth sustainability report. The report highlights sustainability activities and key developments at the Mosca Group’s production sites. In doing so, the machine manufacturer underscores its evolution from a medium-sized pioneer to a global trendsetter for sustainable end-of-line solutions.
With the publication of the 2024 Sustainability Report, Mosca GmbH is taking a decisive step: the fourth voluntary report by the specialist for end-of-line packaging solutions maps the ecological and social impacts of its production sites worldwide for the first time and is based on the new European reporting standards (CSRD / ESRS).
“For us, sustainability is not an add-on, but an integral part of our corporate strategy and the foundation for long-term success,” emphasizes Ann Mertens, Sustainability Manager at Mosca. In light of geopolitical uncertainties and regulatory challenges such as the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), the company is focusing on transparency and strong partnerships along the value chain and within the industry.
Global Management through the New ESG Council
A strategic highlight of the reporting year is the establishment of a new organizational structure to manage sustainability topics within the Group. The global ESG Council, founded in October 2024, ensures that Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) aspects are systematically integrated into all strategic decisions and operational processes. Despite the expansion of the reporting scope to global sites, the focus remains on decarbonization: the 2024 balance sheet shows 11,659 tCO2e for Scope 1 and 2. By 2030, Mosca aims to reduce these emissions by at least 60%.
PET straps produced in Germany already consist of approximately 98% recycled material (rPET), while polypropylene (PP) straps reach a share of at least 30% rPP. Globally, all PP products are to be based on biopolymers or recyclates by 2030.
Social Responsibility and Corporate Culture
To measurably strengthen its value-oriented corporate culture, the company will introduce an Employee Engagement Score for the first time starting in 2025. This serves as a central instrument to continuously promote employee identification and satisfaction.
Customer Benefit and Digital Transparency
In parallel, the new Digital Load Pass expands the service for customers. Via a QR code, it provides direct access to data on packaging materials and transport security. This marks an important step for Mosca towards establishing the future digital product passport.
Innovation and Circular Economy as a Response to PPWR
Mosca takes a critical stance toward the reuse quotas for transport packaging – such as straps and stretch films – stipulated in the PPWR. According to the company’s assessment, these quotas are not feasible in current practice.
However, to continue driving future-proof solutions, Mosca has promoted the establishment of the Project Alliance for Strapping (PAU). Together with European partners, the company is working to establish genuine material cycles as an ecologically sensible alternative. The goal is to create an industry solution and work together to ensure that straps are systematically returned to the material cycle.

Even as legal requirements continue to evolve and change, Mosca remains consistent: “We will continue to publish reports aligned with the CSRD,” emphasizes Ann Mertens. “Our clear commitment as the Mosca Group to sustainability remains unchanged.”
