AMB offers end-to-end print services with sustainability in mind

AMB Spa, a family-owned company, established over 50 years ago in north-east Italy, was the first packaging manufacturer to set up a fully water-based converting facility in Europe. AMB are one of the leading international suppliers of rigid and flexible films, uniquely offering an end-to-end process. The pan-European company’s “all in one place” products and services include all aspects of the packaging process: concept design, tooling, product specification, print design and application. In recent years, AMB has expanded its water-based flexo printing capabilities in a move that boosts the company’s strong commitment to high-quality printing using eco-friendly, water-based methods.

360-degree services

In fact, all of AMB’s plastic film processes are carried out using water-based systems. This commitment to innovation and sustainability has provided the foundation on which the company’s pioneering role is built: developing environmental solutions coupled with outstanding quality.

AMB’s eco-friendly print services encompass the complete process from initial design right through to high-quality water-based flexo printing. AMB printing delivers rich, crisp colour tones and photographic detail using water-based inks. These can be used on re-closable films, sealing on PET, mat lacquering, as well as creating a paper effect.

The all-in-one service offers sustainable print applications that include printed rigid bottom, printed top, flow pack, labels and paper. Due to the ground-breaking use of water-based technology, AMB clients can enhance their own eco-friendly credentials, enabling them to expand their business by attracting customers sensitive to the growing global awareness of sustainability. On the retail shelf it leads to stronger brands as eye-catching optics attract consumers and provide reassurance that their purchase will not harm the environment.

The company’s unique approach not only ensures sustainability, but also quality, speed and flexibility. Artwork, pre-press, plate making and printing are all managed in one location, thus leading

to a simplified supply chain that offers customers greater speed and a smoother path to market. Flexible handling provides clients with the opportunity for easy customisation by offering small print quantities, enabling product variations and seasonal editions as well as retailer promotions.

Maximising productivity with water-based technology

AMB has increased its printing capacity by 150% to 28 million metres per year with a minimum width of 300mm and a maximum of 1250mm. To achieve this, the company recently invested in a BOBST EXPERT CI press, a second 8-colour flexo press, which joined the COMEXI Flexo F2 WB already at the AMB facility in San Daniele del Friuli.

Both the BOBST and the COMEXI are closely aligned with AMB’s sustainability strategy. In 2014 AMB became the first company in Europe to pave the way for water-based packaging production, a revolutionary process which completely eliminates the use of solvents. Water-based technology for packaging and printing provides a competitive advantage to all companies offering food products with high-quality ingredients, companies implementing green policies, as well as companies wanting to meet the increasingly strict packaging requirements put in place by the EU. Additionally, it reduces overall energy use and minimises waste.

“As a pioneer in water-based printing and lamination, we have always invested in technology that enables us to remain at the forefront of development and deliver our promise of truly sustainable production to our customers,” say Bruno Marin CEO of AMB and Alessandro Marin, Technical Director.
