A bespoke filling solution from ATS Packaging Machinery has enabled Edible Oils Limited (EOL), part of international food and drink company Princes Group, to speed up the packing of a variety of edible oils including coconut and vegetable.
The existing rotary filling machine at one of EOL’s factories in Kent was struggling to keep up with the required production volumes of oil, owing to the design of the existing filling nozzles. Working with the customer, ATS designed a new nozzle that allowed a faster transfer of the liquid to the PET and glass bottles.
In particular, the new nozzle design is able to deliver a wide range of product viscosities, ensuring a smooth transfer of product and clean operation while maintaining high speeds.
ATS used its Solidsworks 3D design facility to create an initial design for review by the customer. Once this was finalised, ATS produced a sample for trial. Following the success of the trial, EOL ordered a full machine set of 16 nozzles.
As a result, the line is now operating up to 23% faster than the previous system, filling bottles at around 90 per minute.
“With continuing high demand for our products, we needed to quickly upgrade our filling system in order to maximise output and minimise product giveaway,” explained Mondre Joubert, EOL Engineering Manager. “ATS fully understood our needs and delivered a fast and cost-effective solution that has improved productivity with minimal investment. We are delighted with the result.”
The success of the project has also led EOL to commission ATS to provide additional filling and capping machine upgrade work.
