New probiotic solution to support weight management efforts

Lallemand Health Solutions’ rising star L. rhamnosus HA-114 revealed to improve eating and mood-related behaviors in overweight adults who were undergoing diet-induced weight loss in a new breakthrough study.

The results of this recent randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial highlight the beneficial effects of this probiotic intervention for behavioral and psychological traits when engaging in a calorie reduced diet. A healthier metabolic phenotype was also associated with probiotic supplementation. These results affirm the applicability of the brain-gut axis concept again and demonstrate the influence of this probiotic strain on psychological wellbeing among participants engaging in a caloric-restriction intervention.

“We are extremely excited about these new insights. L. rhamnosus HA-114 is an innovative strain that has shown its capacity to support weight management efforts in overweight adults undertaking a weight loss program. It will allow us to formulate unique probiotic solutions for our partners available in convenient galenic formats, such as caps, sachets, orodispersible stick, etc.” confirms Morgane Maillard, Marketing Group Manager at Lallemand Health Solutions. “Consumers are health-aware and are looking for natural ways to take care of themselves, so the market opportunities are real.” She adds. “This study is paving the way to further investigation in the field of metabolic health, where there are abundant health applications.” Concludes Ms. Maillard.

The probiotic supplementation could favor wellness and facilitate adherence during a diet-based weight reduction program. The probiotic improved self-control behaviors (binge-eating, hunger, food cravings, etc.),which could lead to a better long-term adherence to dietary recommendations and higher loss. This is especially significant, knowing that for 45.7% of consumers, losing weight is a challenge because we are prone to self-defeating actions, like enjoying treats and moments of indulgence, and that 28.9% of consumers think their latest attempt to lose weight was unsuccessful.
