Kerry’s Midwest Greener Future project obtains USDA endorsement

Kerry’s Initiative Aims to Support Farmers by Transforming Sustainable Agriculture Practices Across the Midwest

Kerry, a global leader in taste and nutrition innovation, is proud to announce that it’s ‘Midwest Greener Future’ proposal, which focuses on developing a holistic, farm-focused approach to reducing environmental impacts and enhancing climate resilience across dairy and crop supply chains in the Midwest, has been endorsed by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) through the Regional Conservation Partnership Program (RCPP).

Kerry’s multi-state project aims to reduce greenhouse gases and improve water quality in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Illinois, and Indiana. The company aims to cut enteric emissions from dairy cows by 59,800 metric tons using 3-NOP, reduce manure storage emissions by 22,500 metric tons, and achieve 327,491 metric tons of emission reductions and carbon sequestration in crop production. Additionally, this plan will prevent 3,056,585 pounds of nitrogen and 218,328 pounds of phosphorus from contaminating water sources, demonstrating Kerry’s commitment to sustainable agriculture.

“Kerry is grateful to the USDA for this grant, which will support farmers and partners to accelerate climate and nature-focused practices, fostering a greener, more resilient future for agriculture in the Midwest,” said Mike Gransee, Kerry’s Vice President of Responsible Sourcing.

This USDA grant of $21 million recognizes Kerry’s comprehensive strategy to tackle environmental challenges. With a strong history of supporting farm-level initiatives in Ireland, Kerry will leverage this investment, funded through the Farm Bill and the Inflation Reduction Act, to enhance climate and nature outcomes in partnership with Midwest farmers, suppliers, and partners. Over the next five years, these efforts will help build a more resilient food system.
